2008 NorEast Ski Day Report by Chris Roundy Nearly a half dozen NorEasters attended the First Annual NorEast Ski Day on Saturday February 2, 2008 and were treated to some fantastic New England skiing at Gunstock Mountain Resort.
Chris Roundy, Joe Regan, Steve Bauermeister, Bob Tutwiler, and his wife Anita met up at the Stockade Lodge and headed out to enjoy the sun and snow. Chris, Bob, and Anita had followed the theme of the day at Gunstock, it was the New England Telemark Telefest that day, and were skiing telemark. As they say, half the binding, twice the fun.NorEast saw the need to represent at the Classic Telemark Race that was being held that day and several skiers entered the race. A Classis Tele Race involves several traditional turns through gates, some up hill loop/skate portions, and a 5-15 meter jump. Oh yeah and you have to be in the tele position the whole time. It was a tricky course and Chris hit the deck with a Bode Miller hip check his first run, but managed to keep the rubber on the road for his second run. After the racing was done the group enjoyed some free-skiing on the packed powder terrain that Gunstock had on offer. Everyone had a great time enjoying the sun, snow, and speed. Remember kiddies, just because the roads are salty, sandy, and wet doesnt mean that we cant get out there and have a great time and work our legs. Cross-training; be it alpineing, telemarking, snowboarding, or X-C skiing; is a great way to stay active, prevent injuries and keep interested in what youre doing. |
